Mark Keleher

Mark leads Gray's new business development and marketing initiatives. Mark has been working in the education industry for nearly 10 years. Previously, he worked with College Athletic Departments, selling a software solution. He nurtured a successful organizational shift from the individual coach as customer, to an entire athletic department as the customer, which led to the successful sale of the company. With Gray, he is focused on building and developing client partnerships by working to define, communicate, and deliver solutions that create lasting value far beyond the scope of an individual project or subscription. Mark earned a Bachelor's degree from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business with a double major in Computer Information Systems and Management.

Every month, Gray releases the latest student and employer demand trends in higher education.  Here are a few of the trends from January of 2018 that we released in February of 2018:

  • For the first time since 2012, inquiry volumes increased, rising 3%. 
  • Conversion rates and conversions are rising. 
  • Inquiries for online programs grew 14% YoY, up from 6% YoY growth last month.
  • Program Productivity is a serious issue–and an opportunity.

2018 Webcast Series: Best Practices in Program Portfolio Assessment - Student Demand

Gray kicked-off our 4-part webcast series on Best Practices in Program Portfolio Assessment on Thursday, February 8th.  We shared our approach, that was developed in partnership with institutional leaders, to reduce cost and increase revenue by identifying the best mix of programs.  Institutions have used our methodology to optimize how they allocate funds and invest in existing and new programs. 

Student demand was the focus of the first webcast in our series.  Our goal was to help you understand how to get and use Google data, inquiry volumes, Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) completions, and geo-spatial analysis to assess demand for your programs.

2017 December GrayReports - Student and Employer Demand Trends

Every month, Gray releases the latest student and employer demand trends in higher education.  Here are a few of the trends from December of 2017 that we released in January of 2018:

  • The 10% annual decline in student demand is slowing down a bit.
  • Online program growth slowed-almost to zero. 
  • Women are close to 60% of completions at both the Associate’s and Bachelor’s level.
  • 45% of undergraduate programs have 10 or fewer completions and produce just 7% of completions.

Every month, Gray releases the latest student and employer demand trends in higher education.  Here are a few of the trends from November of 2017 that we released in December:

  • The number of job postings from Burning Glass Technologies for Medical Insurance Specialist, the Program of the Month, have grown each year since 2012.
  • Student demand for on-campus programs is down 20% year-over-year. 
  • The number of student inquiry conversions for online programs grew for the 13th consecutive month.
  • All five of the fastest-growing programs grew 20% or more.

Every month, Gray releases the latest student and employer demand trends in higher education.  Here are a few of the trends from October of 2017 that we released in November:

  • The number of job postings from Burning Glass Technologies for Human Services, the Program of the Month, peaked in 2015.
  • 62% of job postings for Human Services cite a Bachelor's as the minimum level of required education.
  • Student demand for on-campus programs is down 15% year-over-year.
  • The number of inquirers who progressed in the application process rose by 17%.  Online programs drove most of this growth with a 31% increase in inquiry conversions.

  • Overall student demand for higher education through September has dropped 11% in 2017.
  • The job postings for Graphic Design, the Program of the Month, since 2015 have been volatile.
  • The student demand for only one (Los Angeles) city in The Big 5 grew year-over-year.
  • Student demand for on-campus programs is down 21% year-over-year.
  • Liberal Arts and Sciences Associate's degree had the most completions in 2016.

2017 August GrayReports - Student and Employer Demand Trends

Every month, Gray releases the latest student and employer demand trends in higher education.  Here are a few of the trends from August of 2017 that we released in September:

  • Online rebounded and remains a bright spot in demand for higher education. 
    • Inquiries inched down just 1% vs. a very strong month in 2016. 
    • Conversions rose 89% in May, are up for June and July, and will get better. 
  • Interest in on-ground programs continued a steep decline. 
    • Inquiries fell 12% year-over-year. 
    • Conversion fell 10% year-over-year. 
  • Budgets are shifting from trades programs to degreed programs. 
  • All large programs and cities were flat or down.

Every month, Gray releases the latest student and employer demand trends in higher education.  Here are a few of the trends from July of 2017 that we released in August:

  • Overall student demand for higher education continued to decline 11%.
  • Our program of the month, Electrical and Electronics Engineering scores well using our student demand data and all three sources indicate growth.
    • Job postings data indicates a strong profession with many well-known employers and a median advertised salary of $89,000.
  • Two of the Big 5 programs grew year-over-year in July.
  • Conversions of April inquiries are 4% below last year's volume.

Every month, Gray releases the latest student and employer demand trends in higher education.  Here are a few of the trends from June of 2017 that we released in July:

  • Overall inquiry volumes continue to decline 11%
  • Conversions of March inquiries are now 2% above last year’s volume
  • Some trends are strongly diverging by segment
    • Inquiries for on-campus programs fell 10%, while inquires for online grew 21%
    • Conversions for on-campus fell 14%, but online programs are up 91%
  • Human Services was the fastest-growing program
  • June’s Program of the Month was based on it’s strong employment opportunities
    • Operations Management and Supervision scores well using our employment data
    • It also appears to be a strong profession, with growing employer demand and many advertised salaries over $50,000

Every month, Gray releases the latest student and employer demand trends in higher education.  Here are a few of the trends from May of 2017 that we released in June:

  • Overall inquiry volumes continued to decline 8%

  • External inquiries dropped 10%, and Branded inquiries also dropped 7%.

  • Medical Coding was the fastest-growing program.

  • Employment related to Public Relations has recently grown.

    •  Public Relations was also one of the fastest-growing programs in terms of Google Search Volumes. 

    • It also appears to be a strong profession, with many advertised salaries over $50,000
